Designed for
Eligible households and energy companies
Results-based subsidies that help eligible households buy solar home systems and cleaner cooking technologies.
Open EAQIP applicationOverview
EAQIP is a USD 288 million World Bank-funded initiative improving access to modern energy in Rwanda through electricity expansion, service efficiency and clean-energy solutions.
BRD implements the off-grid electricity and clean-cooking subcomponents. These provide results-based financing subsidies through eligible companies, targeting 150,000 off-grid households and 500,000 clean cookstoves. The project concludes on December 31, 2026.
How it works
Households receive support when purchasing eligible solar home systems or clean cookstoves.
The subsidy is channelled through participating off-grid solar and clean-cooking companies.
Companies pre-finance delivery and claim the subsidy after results are independently verified.
EAQIP subcomponents 3a and 3b do not include a credit line.
