What is the ASCENT Project?
ASCENT is the Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation programme, funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to expand sustainable and reliable energy access in Rwanda.
BRD implements the off-grid electrification and clean-cooking activities. The programme targets 50,000 off-grid households, 80,000 clean cookstoves and 5,000 businesses using productive-energy technologies, and runs to December 31, 2029.

Line of credit
The ASCENT line of credit is available to energy service companies for off-grid solar home systems, clean cookstoves and productive-use-of-energy technologies.
Eligibility
Eligibility criteria
Companies must show that the end user directly receives the subsidy benefit and must demonstrate sound operations and after-sales service.
Products must meet applicable ministerial guidelines for clean cookstoves and off-grid solar home systems.
Eligible households must be in approved off-grid zones and cannot have previously received a subsidised system or grid connection.
Commercial enterprises must have a Tax Identification Number and comply with RRA and RSSB requirements. Micro and small enterprises, including sole traders, farmers and household enterprises, are eligible.
Large businesses are eligible when annual turnover does not exceed FRW 20 million.
